Complete Guide to Vegan Options in Disneyland Resort Hotels! (January 2024)

Welcome to the hotels of the Disneyland Resort! Let’s eat some vegan food!

A few tips and notes before we begin:

If these guides are helpful to you and you would like to show your appreciation, you are welcome to buy me a Dole Whip 🙂

If you have any photos that you would like to contribute to the blog, I’d love to have them so that I can post them here, with credit to you of course! Please email to happiestveganonearth@gmail.com 🙂

I update these guides continuously, and I change the month/year in the title of the post to reflect when it has last been updated. This blog is here as a resource for anyone planning a visit to the parks, but I cannot always keep up with Instagram messages because it is so overwhelming. Please be understanding if I can’t get back to you on Instagram right away.

Some tips regarding the dining locations in the hotels:

Note that the dining locations inside these hotels (Grand Californian, Disneyland Hotel, and Pixar Place) are open to anyone, not just to hotel guests (with the exception of poolside dining of course, because only hotel guests can get into the pool area).

If you would like to eat at a Table Service restaurant, it is recommended to make a reservation on the Disneyland app or website, or you may possibly get lucky as a walk-up. You can make table service reservations up to 60 days in advance, and for some restaurants, they will get booked within minutes of becoming available. I suggest setting your alarm for 6am on your 60-days ahead day, and going on the website and trying to book. If there aren’t any times available, keep checking back in case there are cancellations, and in case they add more capacity. During non-peak times, though, you should be able to get in as a walk-up if you are willing to wait a bit, though it really depends on availability.

Please note that I am just a guest, like you, and I have no control over any decision made at Disneyland. If you would like to express how you feel about the (lack of) vegan options, please send Disneyland an email or comment on one of their official social media accounts.

By the way, nothing below is meant to be health food; rather, it is theme park food. Whenever I have access to ingredients lists, I do post photos of them, but this is not so that you can pick them apart for not being healthy enough. The point of showing the ingredients is that I’m trying to be helpful and show how the item does not contain meat, dairy, eggs, or honey. I have no control over what goes into the food, so I do not need to hear about it when you think something isn’t healthy enough. I pour a lot of time, effort, and money into maintaining this website, and I do all of this research for you for free, so I appreciate you not leaving negative, unhelpful comments about whether or not the food is healthy enough. Any health policing comments will be deleted 🙂

Craftsman Bar & Grill

The Craftsman Grill is the quick service location just past the bathrooms, and the Craftsman Bar is the table service area next to the pool. Inside the Craftsman Grill, you can order food, and there is a grab and go section there. And at the Craftsman Bar, you can order from the bar as well as the food.

For breakfast at Craftsman Grill: This location used to have vegan Mickey waffles, but as far as I know, they are not offering them now.

The options for breakfast are the Chia Pudding and Fresh Fruit.

They also have some fresh fruit and granola bars in the grab and go section. Those Clif Chocolate Chip bars are vegan. For the Kind Bars, some flavors are vegan and some are not (look out for honey in the ingredients lists).

For lunch/dinner hours, they used to have a bread bowl with Impossible Meatballs and Marinara Sauce, but that was removed recently.

I have been told that they can make a vegan version of their burger by subbing an impossible patty (listed under the Wagyu Gouda Burger on the menu), but I haven’t gotten it myself yet, so I can’t tell you any details about whether there is dairy/egg in the bun or any of the sauces.

They also have the Forest Mushroom Impossible Sausage Pizza on the menu. Omit the cheese and it still has Roasted Mushrooms, Plant-based Sausage, Mushroom Spread, and Caramelized Onions on it. There have been mixed reports about whether the crust has eggs in it, please always double check with your server when ordering.

Below is a custom order that @rollercoastervegan got a while back. I’m not sure if you would be able to get it consistently, it may depend on the chef, but you could try if you like.

Thank you so much Russell for the photo below, for all of the information, and for coming up with the method of ordering this!

I used to have a version of the Poke/Rice Bowl here on the blog, pre-2020, when they had tofu as an option for it. But since they don’t have the tofu anymore, it would be removing so many of the other components in order to veganize it, so I didn’t include the bowl in the updated blog post.

But @rollercoastervegan talked to a chef recently and they were able to create this great version of it!

Here is how to request the Veganized Rice Bowl:

  • Ask for the Rice Bowl
  • Substitute crumbled Impossible meat instead of chicken/beef
  • Omit egg, egg roll, and aioli
  • This chef used a soy glaze sauce instead of aioli
  • For veggies: mushrooms (from the pizza), tomatoes, cucumber, edamame, and asparagus, topped with green onion, sesame seeds, and seaweed

I can’t guarantee that you will be able to get this on any given day, it might depend on the chef. But if enough of us go there and ask for it, my hope is that it could become a staple off-menu item that any chef is prepared to make on a regular basis. And then possibly a real menu item at some point. We just need to get over there and keep asking for it!

They also have a wide array of cocktails, beers, wines etc. Most are vegan, but you can look up anything you’re interested in on Barnivore if you like!

If you are a hotel guest at the Grand Californian, meaning you have access to the pool, then the information below about the poolside menu may be of interest to you.

The items above from the Craftsman Bar & Grill are also available on the Poolside Menu. There, they also have an Impossible Burger, which I am assuming comes from the Storyteller’s Cafe menu. It is marked with the plant-based menu icon, meaning vegan without modifications.

Below are some photos of the poolside menu for your reference:

Storyteller’s Cafe

Breakfast/brunch:

For breakfast, they have a buffet that is character dining with Mickey & Friends, so the characters walk around and stop by each table for a quick hello.

As with any buffet on Disneyland property, a few of the buffet items will be vegan, but you’ll want to ask to speak with a chef, who will be prepared to make you some speciality vegan dishes in addition to what is on the buffet. Just make sure to specify to the chef that you need everything to be made without meat, dairy, eggs, or honey.

In June 2023, @belleholidayrose sent me this photo with vegan croissants that they are apparently trialling! She said that they were “whole grain and kind of seedy. Really good. Came with vegan butter. Dense and filling. Not really like the puff pastry you’d expect, but you could tell it was still pastry dough, just more ‘healthy.'” Also pictured here are the vegan Mickey waffles and vegan pancakes that you can always get upon request. Thanks so much for the photo, @belleholidayrose!

Many thanks to @ohlucyy for the photo below of her visit to Storyteller’s Café in January 2023! Upon request, the chef made her vegan Mickey waffles and a veggie hash. They brought out some oat milk for her coffee, and she got fruit from the buffet.

Many thanks to Brittany who shared the photos and info below with me from her experience in December 2021!

The chef made her vegan Mickey waffles, oatmeal, and a potato/veggie dish with impossible meat. They also served her some vegan cookies and fruit.

The potato dish is actually listed on the menu as Breakfast Potatoes with Crumbled Impossible Meat with Bell Peppers, Onions, Roasted Tomatoes, and Parsley Leaves.

Lunch and Dinner:

Lunch and dinner are not the character buffet; there are no characters during that time.

The info I have below is from a few months ago, so it may change from time to time. The menu online lists only vague descriptions, but it says that it should always have a “Plant-Based Offering” under the hot entree section.

As always, inform your server that you would like to know about vegan options when you arrive, and they will have a chef make you something special.

Most recently, @yumcore.yumcore sent me a photo of vegan crab cakes they have started making! Here is their description: “2 plant-based crab cakes served on a bed of frisee on some sort of guacamole or green goddess dressing. There were decorative dots of balsamic vinegar glaze and a dehydrated slice of orange. Instead the crab cake were veggies and sliced chunks of some plant based thing, I thought it tasted more like chicken than crab. It was breaded and deep fried. I actually didn’t believe it was vegan and my omni husband couldn’t tell either, but it was really tasty and the servers and chef assured me that it was vegan several times.”

Thanks so much @yumcore.yumcore for sending in the photo and description!

Here are a few more photos from Storyteller’s that are a bit older:

For the appetizer, the Blistered Shishito Peppers are vegan, and they can also do a modified version of the salad.

For the entree, they have an Impossible Burger: Toasted Bun, Artichoke Aïoli, Roasted Tomato, Lettuce, Grilled Onions, Cornichons and French Fries or fresh Fruit. Omit the aioli and mushrooms – mushrooms aren’t listed on the description, but I suppose they are still there and perhaps cooked in butter? Just make sure to ask your server to fully veganize the burger.

They can also make an off-menu vegan spaghetti with marinara upon request.

They also have the same Forest Mushroom Impossible Sausage Pizza that is on the Craftsman Bar & Grill menu. Omit the cheese and it still has Roasted Mushrooms, Plant-based Sausage, Mushroom Spread, and Caramelized Onions on it. See the photo above.

For dessert, they have recently started serving the raspberry sorbet again.

They also have an extensive list of cocktails, beers, and wines.

Hearthstone Lounge

The online menu may still show the Impossible meatball dish from before, but the menu has changed, and the vegan dish is now the Vegan Crab Cakes (which they are also serving custom at Storyteller’s Cafe).

Vegan Crab Cake: Plant-based crab cake, avocado vegenaise, frisse, lemon oil, blood orange reduction.

Thank you so much to @el_dozo for sending in this photo!

They also have the Forest Mushroom Impossible Sausage Pizza (Roasted Mushrooms, Plant Based Sausage, Mushroom Spread, Caramelized Onions, Green Onions, Fresh Mozzarella, Grana Padano and Aged Provolone) that is likewise on the menu at Craftsman Bar & Grill. In the same manner, you should be able to request it without cheese and it will be vegan. As always, please make sure to double check with your server.

It is a full bar, so they have a wide variety of cocktails, beers, and wines. The cocktails are mostly vegan; just keep your eye out for honey or cream on the menu. You can put the various beers and wine into Barnivore if you are so inclined.

Napa Rose

Napa Rose’s menu changes quite often, and although they usually don’t have a vegan dish listed on the menu, they are always prepared an off-menu vegan dish upon request.

Since this is a very fancy, expensive restaurant, I’m not able to go all the time to update what they are currently offering. But people who do go send me pictures and reviews, for which I am very grateful!

Below are photos and descriptions from Zoë Bailey in January 2023– thank you so much Zoë!

“We had a beautiful rosemary focaccia, with dipping sauces (the citrus white bean and the sundried tomato sauces were both vegan)”

“Then a salad with a gorgeous vinaigrette dressing, which sounds really boring, however the flavors were absolutely on point.”

“And then the butternut squash ravioli, with ginger mushrooms and haricot verts. The ravioli was quite sweet, but the veggies on top were very savory and umami and again , the flavors really were spectacular.”

“And lastly, a beautiful chocolate cheesecake”

Below is another description from @plantbasedpixiedust, thank you Tiffanie for the info below!

“I had a delicious dinner at Napa Rose last night. We started with Rosemary Focaccia bread. It came with three dipping sauces. One of them was plant-based, the white bean sauce. For a starter, I had a salad with roasted beet and haricots verts. For a main, I had butternut squash ravioli. And for dessert, chocolate cheesecake.”

The photos and info below are from May 2022 from @vegandisneyvillain, so they are out of date now, but they can still serve as an example of the type of vegan dishes that they often offer at this restaurant. Thank you so much Jenelle for the photos and info below!

Please note that, like with any off-menu dish, what you see below may change based on any given day or any chef. It is merely an example of the type of thing you might get, but please don’t hold me responsible if you go and they aren’t able to offer you the exact same thing that you see here.

Field Greens Salad with Aged Sherry Vinaigrette:

Vegetable Stack (mushrooms, carrots, green beans, fava beans, cannelloni beans) over pea purée:

Asparagus pasta with pine nuts and capers, lemon and vegetable stock sauce:

Vegan cheesecake with coconut caramel and coffee sauce:

Princess Breakfast in Napa Rose

This is a character dining experience with princesses in Napa Rose in the Grand Californian Hotel. See the page for it on Disneyland’s website for information about pricing, reservation availability, etc.

You will be able to see the princesses in some way, though I cannot say exactly which ones or how the interaction will be, e.g. how far away they are, etc. I would suggest calling Napa Rose close to the time of your visit, since these things can change from day to day.

I’ve never been to it myself because it has quite a hefty price tag (currently $125 per person), but some fellow vegan Disneyland people have been nice enough to share their photos with me!

@nicole_majestic_memories went in December 2021 and shared the photos below! Thank you so much, Nicole!

She asked for the vegan offerings, and this is what they gave her:

Chia pudding, and what I believe is a caramelized banana situation.

Vegan Mickey Waffles:

Impossible Sausage and tofu scramble:

Various desserts, all vegan of course:

I also have an older blog post that gives a review from 2020, and it is quite similar to the options they are offering now, so you can check that one out if you’d like another review.

Disneyland Hotel:

Trader Sam’s Enchanted Tiki Bar / Tangaroa Terrace

Tangaroa Terrace is a quick service location that offers breakfast, lunch/dinner, and has a walk-up window for espresso drinks and Dole Whips.

Trader Sam’s is the adjacent that bar that opens later for lunch/dinner, and it offers the same menu.

Dole Whip is of course vegan, and they have both soy and almond milk with which to make their espresso drinks and hot chocolate. They told me that they use either Hersheys or Ghirardelli chocolate syrup to make the hot chocolate. The Hersheys is dairy-free, and I believe that the Ghirardelli is also dairy-free (it was at this location in early 2020), but they were currently out of it and so they couldn’t show me an ingredients list.

There are a few grab and go items inside of Tangaroa Terrace as well. Unfortunately, the Chia Parfait in the case below has honey in it (in the granola), which is different from the Chia Coconut Parfait from the Craftsman Grill in the Grand Californian. The latter is vegan, but the one here at Tangaroa Terrace is not.

Breakfast at Tangaroa Terrace:

They still have this Açai Chia Breakfast Bowl from before, which consists of açai purée blended with Bananas, Strawberry, and Coconut Milk, layered with Chia Seed Pudding and topped with Granola, Berries, and Cacao Nibs.⁣

It now has the plant-based menu icon, which is defined as contains no meat, dairy, eggs, or honey. ⁣

But because I have trust issues, I had them check for honey in the granola anyway. And it turned out that it does indeed contain honey, despite the plant-based menu icon. ⁣

So it just needs this modification, to omit the granola.⁣

But it is misleading that it has an icon that is defined as contains no honey, when it actually does. Hopefully it will be revised soon. Hopefully they can change to a different kind of granola, there are many vegan ones!⁣ If you have a moment, please write a quick, polite, and positive email to Disneyland to request this change.

As far as the taste of the bowl, it is basically the same as I can tell from early 2020. A solid, tasty, satisfying breakfast served from 7-11am.

Lunch/Dinner at Trader Sam’s/Tangaroa Terrace:

The Rongo Salad is still there, and still vegan, and has gotten a plant-based menu icon now! Also, it is relatively easy to do a modified version of the Poke Bowl, and there is a secret-menu Impossible burger that requires quite a few modifications.

Rongo Salad: Edamame, Green Papaya, Iceberg Lettuce, Cherry Tomatoes, Gooseberries, crispy Shallots, Sesame Seeds, and Marinated Tofu, with Fermented Miso Vinaigrette ($13.00)

I just love this salad! It’s very satisfying and filling with the tofu and edamame, and has so many different fun flavors and textures with the green papaya and gooseberries. I really love the dressing as well.

You can get a veganized version of the Poke Bowl by choosing the tofu and then omitting the non-vegan ingredients (aioli, fish roe, crab). The crispy onions are made in a shared fryer.

Poke Bowl: Sushi Rice, Togarashi Aïoli, Crispy Onions, Smashed Avocado, Sliced Cucumber, Masago Fish Roe, and Crab Salad, served with choice of Ahi Tuna, Salmon, or Marinated Tofu ($17.00)

They still have a secret menu Impossible Burger that is a modified version of the cheeseburger on the menu. Omit cheese, bacon, and mayo. Also, the bun has dairy, so it has to be a lettuce wrap. I didn’t get this one again so I don’t have any new photos (I will hold out until they get a vegan bun, probably).

In addition to all of the cocktails, drinks, etc., you can also order Dole Whips at Trader Sam’s (it is basically the same as Tangaroa Terrace; they share a kitchen), and you can get the Dole Whip Float with Rum as well.

Goofy’s Kitchen

Goofy’s Kitchen is a buffet/family style table service restaurant inside the Disneyland Hotel.

Just like with any table service restaurant at Disneyland/DCA/the hotels, and especially with a buffet or family style dining, the first step when you sit down is to tell your server that you need to know about the vegan options, and especially at the buffet, a chef should come out to tell you about them.

Please note that these things will change based on the day, the chef, and current availability. You may not be offered these exact same things. It is only an example of the types of food that they sometimes serve here.

Breakfast/brunch:

Below is a recent report from @t.and.a.adventures! Thank you so much for sending the info and photo in!

They had the chef bring them out lots of delicious vegan things during the breakfast hours:

“I had a Just Egg omelette, their vegan hash (potatoes, impossible sausage, kale), vegan chia pudding, fruit, and all of these desserts pictured here. The top one is a brownie. The blue/purple ones are a blueberry raw cake, the bottom one is a caramel fudge raw cake, and the yellow is lemon mango. Delicious!”

Below is a recent photo from @benwunderman from his visit to Goofy’s Kitchen. Thanks so much for the photo, Ben! The chef made him vegan Mickey waffles, a vegan hash, vegan omelette (with vegan cheese and vegan egg), and the other usual things. Chefs have told guests that the PB&J pizza from the buffet is vegan on many occasions, but as always, please make sure to double check on the day that you are there.

Below are some recent photos from @plantbasedpixiedust! Thank you so much Tiffanie for the photos!

On the buffet, they have a vegan hash dish with potatoes and other veggies and Impossible breakfast sausage. Make sure to verify with your server and chef that it’s vegan.

From the omelette bar, you can request Just Egg and vegan cheese.

And of course, any location that has Mickey waffles, such as Goofy’s Kitchen, also has the vegan version upon request! Just ask your server/chef and they’ll bring you out a batch of vegan (allergy-friendly) Mickey waffles.

Below is a photo from @ben.imagine of the vegan Mickey waffles and Just Egg, which the chef offered to make when Ben asked for the vegan options apart from the buffet.

The chef also told Ben that the mixed veggies and scalloped potatoes from the buffet were vegan. Make sure to always double check with your chef, since these things can change from day to day.

The photo below is from @daniara, thank you Daniara for the photo! What you see below is Just Egg from the omelette bar, some of the Impossible Hash from the buffet, and some vegan chilaquiles that the chef prepared specially upon request:

Also during the brunch hours, @hannahhhmcdowell was able to get these things below, some from the buffet, and some prepared for her by the chef! Thank you so much for the photos, Hannah!

Fruit and chia pudding from the buffet:

PB&J Pizza and oatmeal from the buffet:

Vegan Mickey Waffles and Pancakes prepared separately by the chef:

Breakfast scramble prepared separately by the chef with potatoes, peppers, onions, Just Egg, veggies, and vegan cheese:

Plate of hashbrowns and veggies prepared separately by the chef:

Dessert plate with all vegan desserts! Brownies and cookies:

Lunch/Dinner:

For the lunch and dinner hours, there are a few things on the buffet which the chef can point out to you, but more things will be made by the chef specially. Many thanks to @plantbased_mag, who shared these photos below!

A few things that are vegan on the buffet – peanut butter and jelly pizza, grilled veggies, fruit, and chia pudding:

A custom vegan pizza with vegan cheese and veggies that the chef prepared specifically:

Strawberry sorbet available on request!

The chef then prepared vegan versions of many of the buffet items, such as the hashbrowns:

Vegan (allergy-friendly; gluten-free) Mickey Waffles and pancakes upon request:

Vegan version of the Avocado Toast:

Vegan version of the chilaquiles, which are “delicious, but spicy!”

The photos below are relatively recent as well! They are from @andy.kadar, who generously shared the photos and information below!

On the buffet, they sometimes have an Impossible Pasta and a Lentil Curry Stew that the chef said were vegan.

I have been told that the Impossible Pasta on the buffet is vegan, but sometimes there are reports that it is not – it may have cheese in it, depending on the chef or the day. Make sure to double check when you are there.

Vegan Lentil Curry Stew, clearly marked as vegan:

The chef prepared this custom vegan pizza:

As always, when you go, ask to speak to a chef and see what they can do for you! You never know what they will offer!

Palm Breeze Bar

This is a new dining location located in the DVC tower of the Disneyland Hotel. It’s open to everyone, you don’t need to be a member of DVC! Just walk up like you would any other restaurant around the hotels.

They have two items on the menu that are marked with the plant-based menu icon (fully vegan without modifications). Thank you so much to Jenelle @vegandisneyvillain for the photos below!!

Avocado & Lime Hummus Dip: Crudité Vegetables, Espelette, crispy Pita

Garden Pizza: Cheese, Romesco Sauce, Soy Chorizo, Cilantro-Mint Chimichurri, shaved Asparagus, Crimini Mushroom, Sun-dried Tomato

Disneyland Hotel Room Service

Many thanks to @plantbasedpixiedust for the photos and reviews below!

There are two starters with the plant-based menu icon:

Modern Garden Greens: Jardinière Vegetables, Spiced Croissant Crouton, Verjus Vinaigrette

Quinoa & Baby Kale Salad: Persian Cucumbers, Dried Cranberries, Blueberries, Almonds, Meyer Lemon Vinaigrette

And an entree with the plant-based menu icon:

BBQ-Glazed Meatloaf: Slow-braised Country Greens, Butter Beans

Here is Tiffanie’s photo of the BBQ-Glazed Meatloaf:

And here is her photo of the greens and butter beans:

Tiffanie reported on this: “I tried the BBQ Glazed Meatloaf from Disneyland Hotel room service. It was a VERY large potion. Enough to share. So delicious. I wish they would add it to another menu so I could order it again. The mashed potatoes were delicious. The greens and butter beans were pretty standard, but I appreciated how much food was included because of the price. You could definitely share it with someone.”

Many thanks to @_vanessa.segarra_ for the photo below as well!

Pixar Place Hotel:

Great Maple Restaurant

Following the retheming of Paradise Pier Hotel into Pixar Place Hotel, Great Maple Restaurant has been added, opening in November 2023.

I haven’t been there yet, but from looking at their menu, here is what seems like the options to me:

VBLAT: a Vegan twist on a GM classic! Maple Chili Portobello ‘bake-on’, Arugula, Tomato, Vegan Cheddar, Smashed Avocado on Toasted Levain

Charred Cauliflower Hummus: Chickpeas & Roasted Cauliflower, Warm Flatbread, market Vegetables (possibly can be made vegan with modifications)

Seasonal Salad and Modern Caesar Salad, omit dairy, are probably okay. As always, ask your server!

Falafel Wrap: Chickpea Falafel, Arugula, Toy Box Tomatoes, Kalamata Olives, Pickled Onions, Tzatziki, Cauliflower Hummus on Warm Flatbread. Includes choice of Fries or Field Greens with Champagne Maple Vinaigrette (possibly can be made vegan with modifications)

@gunnerbeaglesmummy shared this photo below and review of the VBLAT – thank you so much Zoë!

“I had the BLAT – it was delicious. Super tasty, fresh ingredients and a huge portion – I’d probably share it next time.”

That’s going to do it for now! I’ll update this post whenever I get more info.

If these guides are helpful to you and you would like to show your appreciation, you are welcome to buy me a Dole Whip 🙂

I hope to see you in the park real soon!

If you’re looking for vegan options in Disneyland, DCA, or Downtown Disney, please see my most recently updated Complete Guides for those!

  1. Hello! I don’t have an IG, but I’ve been a vegan for 20 years and rely on your amazing blog (thank you)! My family and I went to the Storytellers Cafe today and it was super disappointing. My husband and I paid $80 for our two adult meals, (our little one (19 months) had fruit and Bob’s muffins (which I brought for breakfast) , with 2 iced lattes (burnt shots =(, almond milk), and our meals…..were SO sad.. chef didn’t even come out to chat. Server gave us 3 baby Mickey waffles, fruit… that’s it. So until things return to normal standards, vegans save your money and go elsewhere!! I was fully expecting a chef to offer a tofu scramble, waffles, potatoes without butter etc but… that didn’t happen.

    1. I’m so glad the blog is helpful to you!! ❤ Thank you for the info about Storytellers, I'm sorry to hear it was so subpar, that is valuable info to have – is it okay if I quote this in the post so that people don't miss it? Also, you may have done this already, but did you write an email to Disneyland to let them know about your experience? Hopefully it will motivate them to improve! Here is the feedback form: https://disneyland.disney.go.com/help/email/

      1. Yes please use my comment, so others are informed. I am hopeful the restaurant will be brought up to speed soon, as our sever and I agreed this used to be a destination because of the many options for vegans. Thanks again!!

  2. I’m currently sitting at the craftsman bar and grill at the Grand Californian and the server just told me that I’m not allowed to make any customizations for vegan preferences.
