Vegan Breakfasts in Disneyland, DCA, and the Hotels!

This is a question I get pretty often, so I’m doing a post to go over all of the vegan breakfast offerings throughout the Disneyland resort, in Disneyland Park, Disneyland California Adventure, the Disneyland Hotel, and the Grand Californian Hotel.

All of this is information is of course included in my Complete Vegan Guides linked below, but people have been asking for a post with just the breakfast options in it. I also include some grab and go ideas for breakfasts from the snack stands.

Complete Guide to Vegan Options in Disneyland
Complete Guide to Vegan Options in California Adventure
Complete Guide to Vegan Options in Downtown Disney
Complete Guide to Vegan Options in the Hotels

Breakfasts are generally served from the opening time of the location until between 10:30 and 11am, but it will depend on each location.

I haven’t included Downtown Disney because there is not much there that I am aware of (Jamba Juice is your best bet there), but I will add it if I find anything significant!

Plaza Inn (Main Street USA, Disneyland)

At Plaza Inn, the breakfast is buffet/family style/table service, while the lunch and dinner are counter service. Please see below in this blog post in the quick service section for information about the lunch and dinner.

As with any table service restaurants in the park, especially character meals, make sure to make a reservation (on the Disneyland website or app).

The character breakfast is with Minnie & Friends, so you will have an opportunity to meet and take a photo with Minnie, and a rotation of other characters.

The menu lists very general things that you would find on the buffet, like Mickey Waffles, variety of fruit, etc. The usual Mickey Waffles aren’t vegan, but they have a vegan (allergy friendly) batter available upon request.

When you arrive, tell your server that you are vegan, and you may have a chef come talk to you to tell you about their vegan offerings.

The chefs are usually prepared to make you vegan Mickey Waffles, breakfast potatoes, and tofu scramble upon request!

I believe that the vegan, allergy friendly, gluten free Mickey Waffles are made with rice flour so as to be gluten-free. They are quite hit-and-miss; I have had some undercooked ones before. They seem to be getting better lately – I have heard reports of them coming out very well cooked, but once in a while, people still say they get undercooked ones. You might want to ask for them to be “well done” or something like that to be safe.

Below are pictures shared with me by @brynny_md from her visit to Plaza Inn in February 2022. Thank you so much Brynn for the recent photos!!

Carnation Café (Main Street USA, Disneyland)

For breakfast, they already had oatmeal that was easy to make vegan, but now they are labeling it explicitly plant-based! So it won’t need any modifications or discussion with the server, which is always a win for me!⁣

Plant-based Overnight Oats with Seasonal Fruit and Banana⁣. Note that, as the name “overnight oats” suggests, these are served cold.

The dish is labeled Plant-based, which they define as containing no animal-based meat, dairy, eggs, or honey.

Below are photos from Jenelle (@the_year_of_disney / @vegandisneyvillain). Thank you so much for the photos, Jenelle!!

They can also make some breakfast potatoes for you upon request, as seen below:

They still have Mickey Waffles on the menu, and while the allergy (vegan + gluten free) version of the Mickey Waffles is not usually listed on the menu, they are available upon request.

In the photo above from February 2020, you can see, they also can make vegan pancakes. I am not sure if they still can, post-reopening, but it would be worth asking! Please let me know if you get any.

They also have soy or almond milk to put into the coffee drinks.

Galactic Grill

Galactic Grill just added a brand new breakfast option when there was none before! They are gradually adding more and more vegan breakfast items, which is so awesome. I have a separate blog post that goes over just the breakfast options if you’re interested in that!

They added a brand new vegan breakfast to Galactic Grill in August 2022! It has the plant-based menu icon, meaning “contains no animal meat, dairy, eggs, or honey.

The Impossible Breakfast Bowl: Potato Bites topped with Sausage, Grilled Peppers & Onions, Egg and Cheddar.

Do not be alarmed when you see “sausage,” “egg,” and “cheddar” in that menu description. The entire menu item has the plant-based menu icon next to it, meaning that it is plant-based versions of each of the components mentioned there: Impossible sausage, Just Egg, and vegan cheddar (usually Follow Your Heart or Daiya).

I went on the first day it was supposed to come out, but it wasn’t quite ready yet, and I haven’t had the chance to go back early enough to get it again yet. But Jeffrey (@loveisagryffindor) got it and graciously shared his photo and review! He describes it: “Delicious dish. The [Just] eggs were soft and the [plant-based] sausage complemented the tots really well. I added ketchup and black pepper since the seasoning was a bit lacking. But it works for people who prefer non-salty foods. My only wish is that it matched the portion size of the Little Town Harvest Bowl from Red Rose Tavern. 9/10 would definitely get again.”

Red Rose Taverne (Fantasyland, Disneyland)

They have started serving breakfast here again after a hiatus! It is the Vegetable Quinoa Breakfast Bowl, which is labeled as plant-based, so it doesn’t require any modifications.

It has quinoa, roasted mushrooms and cauliflower, arugula, tomato, potato bites and spicy lime aïoli. I don’t think it’s spicy, but you know how they like to err on the side of caution when describing something as spicy in Disneyland.

This is a really great breakfast! I have a Youtube video where you can find my more thorough review.

Pym Test Kitchen (Avengers Campus, DCA)

Here they have a fully plant-based breakfast with Just Egg and Impossible sausage:

Impossible Quantum Garden Breakfast – Plant-based folded omelet with Impossible breakfast sausage, crispy potato bites, and focaccia toast

It’s really delicious! Definitely recommend!

Shawarma Palace (Avengers Campus, DCA)

There are two locations of Shawarma Palace – one between Dr. Strange’s Sanctum and the bathrooms, and one on the far end between Guardians of the Galaxy Mission Breakout and the Hyperion Theater. They both serve the same menu.

This is hands down my favorite breakfast in the parks! It is labeled explicitly “plant-based,” meaning “contains no animal meat, dairy, eggs, or honey,” i.e. vegan without modifications.

Impossible™ Breakfast Sha-warm-up: Plant-based Breakfast Sausage and Egg Omelet Wrap with Dairy-free American Cheese and crispy Potato Bites, served with Spiced Maple Syrup

It is with Impossible breakfast sausage that has that sort of apple/save flavor going on, and then vegan cheese and Just Egg, tater tots, and a vegan mayo-type sauce.

It is easily my favorite thing to eat in Avengers Campus. That Spiced Maple Syrup is no joke!! They serve it to you in a little cup, so you can dip it in, or pour it over (I had poured over just a bit of it in this photo), but test it out first, because it packs some serious heat. So so good!!

Here’s another one I had recently! Just as mind-blowingly good as the first one:

Lamplight Lounge Brunch (Pixar Pier, DCA)

Lamplight Lounge Brunch is offered on Fridays, Saturdays, and Sundays (9am-1pm), and you’ll need to make a reservation or get very lucky as a walk-up.

They offer a fully vegan meal: the Potato Flautas, which consist of Plant-based Chorizo, Dairy-free Piquillo Crema, Serrano-Tomatillo Salsa, Arugula Salad, and Escabèche.

These are very delicious in my opinion, and also very spicy. Be ready for some heat.

They can also make a veganized version of the Chilaquiles upon request! It’s not on the menu; it’s a secret menu item. This photo is a bit older, but they should look something like this:

They have a variety of alcoholic and non-alcoholic beverages, most of which are vegan. The last I checked, the bloody mary mix was vegan; it did not contain fish, but please double check. You may look up any of the beers or wines on Barnivore if you are so inclined.

Tangaroa Terrace (Disneyland Hotel)

Here is the breakfast menu:

They have an Açai Chia Breakfast Bowl, which consists of açai purée blended with Bananas, Strawberry, and Coconut Milk, layered with Chia Seed Pudding and topped with Granola, Berries, and Cacao Nibs.⁣

It now has the plant-based menu icon, which is defined as contains no meat, dairy, eggs, or honey. ⁣I had asked about the granola before as it used to contain honey, but I believe that they have rectified that now. But please double check when you order.

A solid, tasty, satisfying breakfast served from 7-11am.

Craftsman Grill (Grand Californian Hotel)

This location used to have vegan Mickey waffles, but as far as I know, they are not offering them.

They have Chia Pudding and Fresh Fruit:

They also have some fresh fruit and granola bars in the grab and go section. Those Clif Chocolate Chip bars are vegan. For the Kind Bars, some flavors are vegan and some are not (look out for honey in the ingredients lists).

They list their Avocado Toast in both the breakfast and lunch/dinner menus, but with different toppings. The bread it comes on (sourdough) is vegan, and you can get it made vegan in either version, it’s just a matter of different modifications (e.g. the breakfast version comes with egg, while the lunch version does not).

So you can get the vegan version of this by omitting the egg on the breakfast version, or omitting the cheese on the lunch/dinner version. It will then have as its toppings Pomegranate Seeds, Olive Oil, Pomegranate Drizzle, Parsley and Celery Leaf Salad on Grilled Sourdough.

Napa Rose Princess Breakfast (Grand Californian Hotel)

This is a character dining experience with princesses in Napa Rose in the Grand Californian Hotel. See the page for it on Disneyland’s website for information about pricing, reservation availability, etc.

You will be able to see the princesses in some way, though I cannot say exactly which ones or how the interaction will be, e.g. how far away they are, etc. I would suggest calling Napa Rose close to the time of your visit, since these things can change from day to day.

I’ve never been to it myself because it has quite a hefty price tag (currently $125 per person), but some fellow vegan Disneyland people have been nice enough to share their photos with me!

@nicole_majestic_memories went in December 2021 and shared the photos below! Thank you so much, Nicole!

She asked for the vegan offerings, and this is what they gave her:

Chia pudding, and what I believe is a caramelized banana situation.

Vegan Mickey Waffles:

Impossible Sausage and tofu scramble:

Various desserts, all vegan of course:

I also have an older blog post that gives a review from 2020, and it is quite similar to the options they are offering now, so you can check that one out if you’d like another review.

Storytellers Café

For breakfast, they have a buffet for $49 per adult and $29 per child. It is character dining with Mickey & Friends, so the characters walk around and stop by each table for a quick hello.

As with any buffet on Disneyland property, a few of the buffet items will be vegan, but you’ll want to ask to speak with a chef, who will be prepared to make you some speciality vegan dishes in addition to what is on the buffet. Just make sure to specify to the chef that you need everything to be made without meat, dairy, eggs, or honey.

Many thanks to Brittany who shared the photos and info below with me from her experience in December 2021!

The chef made her vegan Mickey waffles, oatmeal, and a potato/veggie dish with impossible meat. They also served her some vegan cookies and fruit.

The potato dish is actually listed on the menu as Breakfast Potatoes with Crumbled Impossible Meat with Bell Peppers, Onions, Roasted Tomatoes, and Parsley Leaves.

Snack stands throughout Disneyland and DCA

You might be the kind of person who likes to grab a piece of fruit or granola bar for breakfast! Throughout Disneyland and DCA, you will find snack stands with various things that could be your breakfast.

Below you see pickles, mango slices, pineapple spears, mandarin cutie oranges, hummus & cracker cups, grapes, etc. at a snack stand in Frontierland.

Whole Fruit (bananas, apples, oranges):

Obviously only some of the chip varieties are vegan; make sure to check the ingredients lists on the back.

Below you see some pineapple spears, cuties, pickles, etc. at Fillmore’s in DCA:

Pineapple Spears at the Tropical Hideaway:

Hippeas at Tropical Hideaway (these are only sometimes there):

While we’re at the Tropical Hideaway, you might consider a Dole Whip for breakfast! All flavors of Dole Whip are vegan.

And of course, Mickey Pretzels available at pretzel carts throughout both parks are vegan! Just don’t get the optional cheese add-on. Get some mustard packets instead!

The photos below are repackaged Enjoy Life products. Enjoy Life is a brand that makes allergy-friendly foods and most of the products are vegan; but a couple contain honey.

These Apple Cinnamon Fruit and Oat Ovals are vegan:

As are these Chocolate Chip Banana Fruit and Oat Ovals:

Cinnamon Swirl Mini Rice Crisps:

Also, keep an eye out for the Rice Milk Chocolate and Dark Chocolate Bars. These are my favorites, especially the rice milk ones!

There are lots of packaged snacks that are vegan, for example pretzels, many varieties of trail mix, nuts, etc. Just make sure to check the ingredients lists, since there are so many of them, and the availability change change quite often. Most of them are vegan, but some contain milk (e.g. trail mixes with chocolate in them).

The last thing that I will mention is that if you’re just interested in coffee, a soy latte, etc., then there are Starbucks with all of the normal Starbucks options – veganize almost any drink by choosing soy, oat, almond, or coconut milk. There are sometimes a few little vegan packaged snacks, like granola bars or bags of nuts. These are the Starbucks locations:

  • Main Street USA in Disneyland (aka the Market House)
  • Buena Vista Street in California Adventure (aka Fiddler, Fifer & Practical Café)
  • Starbucks (Downtown Disney)

I hope that was helpful! I would encourage you to peruse the Complete Guides to Vegan Options below to get up to speed on all of the options for lunch and dinner as well:

Thanks going to do it for today! Until next time, I’ll see ya real soon!

  1. I had breakfast today at Carnation Cafe. I personally didn’t like the overnight oats because they were cold. I also order the allergy-friendly Mickey waffles and they were the best I have had. On my last trip at the cafe association with The Grand California I got some uncooked. I also order coffee and was told they have soy milk, but I decline because I am a black coffee person.

  2. Such an invaluable resource during our April 2022 family trip to Disneyland and DCA. The vegan offerings have gotten so much better since our last visit in 2019.
