Guide to Vegan Options at Lunar New Year 2023 in Disney California Adventure Park!

It’s that time of year again! The Lunar New Year Celebration happens mostly in Disney California Adventure Park, with a few items scattered around Downtown Disney as well.

Below are the items that are vegan that I found. Please make sure to read carefully and thoroughly – just because I list an item doesn’t mean that I’m saying 100% that it is vegan! It may need modifications or further clarifications, and ingredients can change from day to day, so make sure to double check with the cast members and chefs.

The Lunar New Year runs this year from January 20 to February 15, 2023. This is not a specially ticketed event; it is simply part of what is happening in the park during this time. You don’t need to buy any separate tickets apart from your normal park ticket.

Sip & Savor Passes are optional, and I personally don’t ever get them because I find it easier to pay for items individually instead of calculating whether it will be worth it based on the items that I intend to get. You can read more about Sip & Savor Passes on the Disneyland website section for the Lunar New Year Celebration.

Here is a link to the Disney Parks official Foodie Guide to Lunar New Year for your reference.

If you’d like to hear my more thorough reviews of the items I tried than what you read in this post, here is a Youtube video with my reactions!

Paradise Garden Grill (Mobile order available)

  • Kimchi Bokkeumbap: Kimchi, potato, carrot, and onion fried rice with egg and Korean chili paste topped with crispy sweet and sour tofu and black sesame seeds (New) (Plant-based Item)
  • Hite Beer
  • Blackberry Soju Cocktail: Soju, blackberry purée, and lemon juice with a hint of ginger (New)
  • Lotus Flower Glow Cube

The Kimchi Bokkeumbap is the main event as far as vegan options go this year! It is labeled as “plant-based” on the menu (“made without animal-based meat, eggs, dairy, or honey,”), so the mention of egg in the description will be plant-based egg (Just egg), not chicken’s eggs.

Here is my photo from when I tried it on the first day! It was excellent, I would definitely recommend it and I intend to get it as many more times as I can before the end of the Lunar New Year Celebration. My general rating is 10/10, I would get it over and over again, and my spiciness rating is 4/10, although my threshold is quite high, so you might find it more spicy.

Festival Marketplace Booths in California Adventure

Wrapped in Love

  • Bok Choy & Mushroom Dumpling with a black garlic sauce (New) (Plant-based item)
  • Pineapple Baijiu Cocktail: Dark Rum, baijiu, Allspice Dram, pineapple and orange juices, and falernum syrup garnished with a dried red pineapple chip (New)
  • Grapefruit-Melon Wine Cocktail: Sauvignon blanc, grapefruit liqueur, watermelon purée, rock melon syrup, and lime juice garnished with skewered grapes (New)
  • Lotus Flower Glow Cube

This is a new booth for this year, and it has a clearly marked plant-based item! I tried the Bok Choy & Mushroom Dumplings on the first day this year, and they were very good. Pretty standard, what you would expect from the description, and nothing too mind-blowing. I would get them only if the line is short and I’m in the mood for a small snack-sized thing, but I wouldn’t go too far out of my way to get them.

Bamboo Blessings

  • Young Master Brewery Pale Ale with mandarin and bergamot zest
  • Kloud Brewery Original Gravity Lager
  • Master Gao Brewery Baby Jasmine Tea Lager
  • Three Weavers Brewery Moon Rabbit: Golden stout with vanilla and Vietnamese cinnamon (New)
  • Brewery X Green Tea Rice Lager (New)
  • Anderson Valley Brewing Co. Black Rice Ale (New)
  • Tsingtao Brewery Premium Lager (New)
  • Tsingtao topped with a frozen mango beer foam (New)
  • Lucky Flight: Tsingtao Brewery, Young Master Brewery, Stereo Brewing Co., and Three Weavers Brewery (New)
  • Prosperity Flight: 4Sons Brewing Co., Master Gao Brewery, Brewery X, and Anderson Valley Brewing Co. (New)
  • Lotus Flower Glow Cube

This booth doesn’t have any vegan food items, but there are a variety of beers. Beer is almost always vegan, and you can look up any of the above on Barnivore if you are so inclined.

Lucky 8 Lantern

  • Coconut-Lavender Matcha Foam Iced Coffee: Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Co. French Bistro Blend, coconut milk, coconut cream, and white chocolate sauce garnished with lavender matcha, coconut foam, sea salt, and purple sanding sugar (Non-alcoholic) (New)

This matcha iced coffee has dairy because of the white chocolate sauce, and usually at these booths, the drinks are pre-mixed off site, so it’s not possible to omit it. I would suggest avoiding this one.

Red Dragon Spice Traders

  • Guava Ginger Whiskey Cocktail: Whiskey, ginger liqueur, guava nectar, coconut cream, and lime juice garnished with a lime wheel (New)
  • Lotus Flower Glow Cube

This cocktail looks like it should be vegan to me.

Prosperity Bao & Bun

  • Peach Yuja-Ade: Yuja-lemongrass purée, dragon fruit and peach syrups, lemon juice, and butterfly pea flower tea garnished with a lemon wheel (Non-alcoholic)
  • Soju Peach Yuja Ade: Soju, yuja-lemongrass purée, dragon fruit and peach syrups, lemon juice, and butterfly pea flower tea garnished with a lemon wheel (Non-alcoholic)
  • Lychee Celebration: Gin, prosecco, lychee syrup, yuja-lemongrass purée, and grapefruit juice garnished with an edible purple orchid
  • Lotus Flower Glow Cube

This booth doesn’t have any vegan food items, but these drinks should be vegan. It might be hard to find out the brand of prosecco, but if you are so inclined, you can ask and look it up on Barnivore.

Longevity Noodle Co.

  • Raspberry Oat Milk Tea: Joffrey’s Coffee & Tea Co. Ceylon Tea, raspberry and demerara syrups, and oat milk garnished with skewered raspberries (New)
  • Lotus Flower Glow Cube

This new Raspberry Oat Milk Tea is vegan; it has the plant-based menu icon on it on the allergy menu. I tried it the first day and it was great! Exceeded my expectations. Not too sweet because the tea really balances out the raspberry/fruity syrup, and the creaminess of the oatmilk rounds it out. Definitely less sweet than your average Disneyland drink. I really enjoyed it and actually finished it!

Lamplight Lounge

  • Three Weavers Brewery Seafarer Kolsch-style (New)
  • Lamplight Lounge Lunar New Year Cocktail: Han Soju, Aperitivo Aperol, carrot and orange juices, and cream of coconut garnished with a raspberry and mint (New)

Lamplight Lounge – Boardwalk Dining

  • Lamplight Lounge Lunar New Year Cocktail: Han Soju, Aperitivo Aperol, carrot and orange juices, and cream of coconut garnished with a raspberry and mint (New)

Lucky Fortune Cookery

  • Mango Sticky Rice: Taro and coconut sticky rice with mango gel, toasted coconut, and fresh mango (New)
  • Lotus Flower Glow Cube

This Mango Sticky Rice is not labeled as plant-based, which makes me think that it’s probably not vegan for some reason that is not obvious in its description, but I’ll go and ask next time I’m there.

Pacific Wharf Cappuccino Cart (Mobile order available)

  • Green Tea Horchata (New)

Every time I’ve asked about an horchata-related drink at this cart, it has always contained dairy, even though horchata is often just rice milk and doesn’t necessarily have dairy. But I went and asked again, just in case, and it is as expected, this contains dairy milk.

Outdoor Food Carts (Available Jan. 19 through Feb. 12)

  • Baked Coconut Almond Nian Gao: Baked sticky rice cake topped with coconut and almonds (New)
  • Blackberry Cotton Candy (New)
  • Mandarin Orange Cotton Candy (New)
  • ACE High! Hard Cider Imperial Apple Cider
  • Master Gao Brewery Puffed Rice Chinese Pale Ale

I asked about the Baked Coconut Almond Nian Gao, and they showed me an ingredients list, which had milk in it.

Tortilla Jo’s (Available Jan. 20 through Feb. 15)

  • New Year Sunrise: Rum, grenadine, lime juice, orange juice and pineapple juice (New)

Uva Bar & Cafe (Available Jan. 20 through Feb. 15)

  • Lunar Eclipse: Gin, cherry liqueur, triple sec, lime juice, pineapple juice, grenadine, and bitters topped with soda and gold glitter (New)

That’s going to do it for now! I look forward to seeing you in the park soon, maybe partaking in the Lunar New Year festivities!
